Off Season Outdoors — Who we are. What we do

Who is Off Season Outdoors?

Founded by lifelong friends Kenny and Alex (Feeny), we are Denver-based outdoorsmen with a passion for adventure. Our love for the outdoors began early, camping with our dads as Tiger Scouts. Feeny went on to earn his Eagle Scout rank, while Kenny took a different path, falling in love with climbing. With over 50 years of combined outdoor experience (not that we’re counting!), we’ve planned and led countless backpacking, camping, climbing, and hiking trips both locally and around the world. Now, we’re excited to share that passion with others and inspire more people to explore the great outdoors.

To help you (and us) understand each event and keep things organized we categorize out trips into Levels and Types.

At the end of every event posting we will list what IS and is NOT included. If you still have questions please reach out and ask.

The Level of Organization is how much is included (What is the ratio of work between us and you).

  1. All Inclusive - This is an everything trip, Location, Activities, Meals, it is all there. Completely “just show up”. Pay one price for the trip. Show up with your clothes. Enjoy. Likely a Retreat or Traditional Camping type. Full trip itinerary.

  2. Fully Organized - The standard Off Season Outdoors trip. A location is organized and reserved. There is some level of amenities that are provided. Add-ons available like food, transport and specialized gear. Activities are available but not included. More of an open trip, the classic “let us do the work and you enjoy” trip. Rough outline of trip itinerary.

  3. Location Only - We are either slacking off a little, or your looking to do a little more on your own. The time and location is organized and set up by OSO, and may or may not have fees. Nothing else is organized. Find your own way, bring your own gear, set your own schedule and activities. No itinerary. (Note: We are still here to help, let us know if you have questions or do need gear. We are here to help support you in getting outside even if we are not organizing it)

  4. None - Just telling the world that someone is going camping somewhere and people are welcome to find their way.

The Type of Trip is the what physical part look of the trip is.

  • Retreat -In a structure of some kind, cabin, yurt, lodge, ect…. Probably an “all-inclusive” trip. Much closer to a vacation than camping. Generally will be the most expensive trips.

  • Backpacking -Unsupported backcountry travel. All gear is carried by your self or the group. Generally a different location every night.

  • Traditional (car) Camping -Vehicle based camping in a developed campsite, private or public. Minimum of a table and an outhouse as amenities. This is probably what most people think about when they hear the word “camping”. Has at least a campground fee involved.

  • Dispersed Camping -Vehicle based camping with no amenities. You get more privacy, closer to nature, and more backwoods. No campground fees. But no toilets.

  • Overlanding -Vehicle focused travel camping. Defined by movement, every night is spent in a new location. Focused on sight seeing and covering distances. The actual campsite each night is likely dispersed camping with no amenities.

  • Winter Camping -Can be combined with any other type of camping, just noteworthy of the environmental concerns. COLD & WET

  • Climbing - the focus is to touch rocks, lots of rocks. Sometime with ropes, sometimes with pads. generally will be car or dispersed camping.

How can we help you get outside and enjoy nature?

We are looking to fill the gap between a fully guided trip, like those provided by Andrew Skurka, Wildland Trekking, REI, or Colorado Wilderness Guides, and just going alone.

How can we help you get out and enjoy more, that is the basic question that drives us and started this project. Is there something keeping you from enjoying nature, or something keeping you from being outside as much as you would like? What can we do, what support can we provide, so that you can GET OUT. We try to make it as easy and accessible for people to go explore and enjoy nature responsibly.
