What is Off Season Outdoors?

We are a small group that wants to help others experience the outdoors. Focused on helping people get outside and enjoy.

The Beginnings

Kenny and Feeny first met in Cub Scouts and discovered camping. Since then they have been hooked on the outdoors, some lucky summers spending more nights in tents than in buildings. As life progressed camping got harder, more stuff got in the way and the group of people around them got smaller. Many people wanted to go outside but could not find the time to actually do it or had some hesitancy to the idea of roughing it in the outdoors. So the idea of making it easy was born.

The first trip along the idea of making it easy to “just show up” was in 2018 in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). In order to avoid the crowds and keep cost down it was planned for the weekend after the season closed, that happened to be early October. These fist two trips (2018 and again in 2019) went mostly well, though snow on more than one occasion complicated it. Much praise to those innocent friends who came along on those trips and braved the weather they were usually unprepared for.

Due to the increase in the popularity of RMNP, shifts in how RMNP was being managed, and the massive changes due to Covid in 2020 we left RMNP for the annual trip and started looking for a new home. After much searching we found Stone Canyon EdVentures. This is where the idea of easy, organized & accessible camping was really formalized. 30 people show up for the that first trip to Stone Canyon in 2020! We knew it was good and it was just the beginning.

Since then, and much thanks to a very good friend, we have now added a second annual trip. This time to Moab in Utah! Mid-March this trip is more adventure focused. Semi-unsupported extended camping, 4 wheeling & rock climbing. An extended weekend in a base camp just outside of Moab is followed by a week overlanding trip exploring Utah and Colorado.

As we move into 2022 and the rest of the 2020’s we hope to continue to be able to organize trips. Bring more people along, and see where this all takes us.
